I enjoyed this and appreciated the translation of the familiarity Van Der Weyden's audience would have felt when looking at this painting that we don't.

I loved this! The MFA is full of treasures like this. You could spend your entire visit with just one work. This baby Jesus has such a mysterious mix of innocence (in his toes—you’re right!) and divine identity. I will certainly think of your essay next time I see this. Thank you!
